Joy Kennedy, MD

Joy Kennedy, MD, is a board certified Child, Adolescent, and General Psychiatrist who provides care for clients living throughout California. She earned her medical degree from The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. She then went on to complete both a General Psychiatry residency and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship at UT Southwestern.
Following her fellowship training, Dr. Kennedy relocated to San Diego to work as a civilian psychiatrist for the Navy. She treated both active duty sailors and their dependent children and served as an assistant professor at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. In 2013 she entered outpatient private practice in San Diego, and has been in practice continuously since then.
Dr. Kennedy offers a comprehensive treatment approach to both individual and family problems. She specializes in diagnostic evaluations and the pharmacological management of psychiatric disorders. She integrates psychotherapy and medications when necessary, and strongly believes in tailoring the treatment plan to fit the unique needs of each client. She has special interests in working with military families, anxiety disorders, and eating disorders.
